Overview

The FireShield 9kg Lithium L2 Class D Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher has been developed for fires involving lithium metal and other combustible metals where a standard fire extinguisher would not be suitable. Metal fires burn at extremely high temperatures and require a specialist extinguishing agent, making the correct extinguisher essential wherever these materials are handled, processed or stored.

This 9kg model is filled with L2 extinguishing powder and is supplied with a low-velocity applicator. Rather than discharging the powder at high speed, the applicator allows it to be applied more gently across the burning metal, helping to reduce the disturbance of the burning material during use. This controlled application is particularly important when tackling metal fires.

The extinguisher is intended for workshops, laboratories, manufacturing facilities and other environments where lithium metal presents a recognised fire risk. It is also suitable for other Class D combustible metal fires, providing dedicated protection for applications that fall outside the capabilities of conventional water, foam, CO₂ and standard dry powder extinguishers.

Manufactured to recognised industry standards, the FireShield 9kg Lithium L2 Class D Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher is supplied with a five-year warranty, making it a dependable choice for workplaces where specialist metal fire protection is required.

Frequently asked questions

Fire extinguishers should normally be serviced every 12 months. This annual basic service should be carried out by a competent technician in line with the recommendations of BS 5306-3. Routine servicing helps confirm that the extinguisher remains in good working order and is ready for use if needed.

The correct extinguisher depends on the materials that could catch fire. Each extinguisher type is intended for specific fire risks.

  • Class A: Solid combustible materials such as wood, paper, cardboard and textiles. Suitable extinguisher types include Water, Water Additive, Dry Powder and Wet Chemical.

  • Class B: Flammable liquids including petrol, diesel, paints, solvents and many chemicals. Suitable extinguisher types include Foam, CO₂ and Dry Powder.

  • Class C: Flammable gases such as propane, butane and LPG. Dry Powder extinguishers are suitable for these fires.

  • Class D: Combustible metals including lithium, magnesium, sodium and titanium. These fires require a specialist Class D dry powder extinguisher.

  • Electrical fires: Fires involving energised electrical equipment. CO₂ and Dry Powder extinguishers are commonly used where electrical equipment remains live.

  • Class F: Cooking oils and fats, typically found in commercial kitchens. Wet Chemical extinguishers are intended for this type of fire.
