Overview

The Dorgard Acoustic Fire Door Retainer is a simple, effective solution for safely holding fire doors open while maintaining full fire safety compliance. Using intelligent acoustic technology, the unit listens for your existing fire alarm, automatically releasing the door when the alarm sounds, allowing it to close and help prevent the spread of fire and smoke. With wireless operation and fail-to-safe technology, Dorgard requires no wiring, making installation quick and straightforward with minimal disruption.

Designed to improve accessibility throughout buildings, Dorgard provides hands-free movement for wheelchair users, staff, residents, patients and visitors, helping organisations meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010. It can hold a fire door open at virtually any angle and features adjustable acoustic sensitivity to suit different environments.

Manufactured in the UK and available in black, white and red finishes, the Dorgard combines a sleek, unobtrusive appearance with dependable performance. It is CE and UKCA marked, tested and certified to BS EN 1155:1997 and BS EN 1634, and complies with BS EN 1155 and BS 7273-4 Category B for complete peace of mind. The unit also features an automatic night-time release function and a low-battery fail-safe release to ensure continuous protection. Frequently asked questions

Yes, self-closing fire doors are mandatory for commercial and public buildings and for landlords. Regulations and laws can be found in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022.

The property owner or responsible person(s) must ensure a fire door is self-closing and maintained in working order.

The only exceptions are for cleaning cupboards or doors leading to plant rooms; however, these doors must have a Fire Door Keep Closed sign visible.

Personal residential homes do not require self-closing fire doors.
